The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) indicated that it has followed up on the conflict between Israel and Palestine, which is why it called for a definitive solution to be found under the premise of two different nations.
“Mexico’s position is clear, which must favor a comprehensive and definitive solution to the conflict under the premise of two States, which addresses Israel’s legitimate security concerns and allows the consolidation of a Palestinian State politically and economically,” said the chancellery through a statement.
Faced with the attacks by the Islamist organization Hamas against the Israeli people, as well as the response of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government with its own air offensives, the SRE called for Palestine to “coexist with Israel within secure and internationally recognized borders in accordance with with the relevant United Nations resolutions”.
He also reiterated that every terrorist act constitutes a threat to international peace and security, the Foreign Ministry requests the cooperation of all States to prevent and sanction them. No cause justifies resorting to terrorism.
Likewise, “Mexico recognizes the right to legitimate defense that assists Israel, which must be governed by the conditions established in international law, condemns the use of force, regardless of who it comes from, mainly when the objectives have been civilians, in frank violation of international humanitarian law,” he stressed.
Furthermore, Mexico is concerned about the violence that has arisen between Israel and Palestine and which has resulted in the unfortunate death of hundreds of civilians, including women and children, the taking of hostages and a high number of injuries.
“The Government of Mexico expresses its broadest solidarity with the victims and their families and makes a firm call to allow the supply, without any obstacles, of humanitarian assistance,” he says.
The regrettable events, added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, should serve to remind us of the urgency of resuming negotiations to reach a fundamental solution to the conflict in the region.
