Mexico will open two new consulates in the US

The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, announced that the Government of the United States gave its approval for the installation of two new Mexican consulates: New Jersey Oklahoma, which will be added to the 51 that already operate in this nation and that during 2021 carried out nearly 3 million procedures for the benefit of the Mexican community.

Leading a balance of the actions undertaken in North America, in consular matters during the year that just ended, the chancellor highlighted that the reorganization of the constituencies of each consulate continues, as happened with Chicago, Dallas, Miami and New York, in order to to be able to provide better care or service to fellow citizens. The two new representations are framed in this task.

This had not been done since 2016, it was said then that it would not be possible, however, thanks to the good offices of the Mexican embassy in the United States, we have already obtained, informally, soon it will be official, the approval of the Government from the United States to settle in New Jersey and Oklahoma,” he said.

He announced that new consulates on wheels were also added in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Raleigh, Chicago and Orlando.

The secretary reported that during 2021 service records were broken in the consular network in both the United States and Canada, as was the issuance of more than one million 500 thousand passports.

He announced that, in the case of consular registrations, the rules of operation will be modified so that any Mexican residing in U.S You can process it at any consulate, regardless of your address.

So, in 2022, in short, due to the increase in consulates, due to changes in the rules, because there are going to be more consulates on wheels or on wheels, we hope to exceed the attendance figures that I just mentioned.

What has the President of the Republic asked of us? That we see for the Mexican population, especially in the United States and Canada. It is worth it, it is something that we consider a priority; In fact, there are consulates that serve more Mexicans than state governments,” he stressed.

In the case of the embassy and the five consulates in Canada, they exceeded the historical numbers of attention registered in 2018, by more than 15 percent.
