Mexico reports no injuries or deaths from Hurricane Beryl

The coordinator of Civil Protection of Mexico, Laura Velázquez, reported this Friday that so far no injuries or deaths have been reported following Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the early morning hours north of the Mexican municipality of Tulum, state of Quintana Roo ( southeast).

During a call made within the framework of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning press conference, Velázquez expressed: “We have no reports so far of injuries or deaths; I repeat, these are preliminary data, we are in the relief phase.” He added: “We are already doing tours mainly in Tulum throughout the length and breadth of the municipality.”

López Obrador recommended people not go out, as fallen trees can represent a risk to the population.

The official announced that, according to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), in Tulum around 40 percent of the region is without electricity, in Isla Mujeres 50 percent, while in Cozumel seven neighborhoods do not have the service. .

On the other hand, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, launched the following notice on the social network our coasts.”

Lezama reported that they are in a moderate danger phase. “The cyclone continues to move away from our territory. The south of the state is on green alert.”

Likewise, he published the work being carried out to return to normality as soon as possible. In that sense, he asserted that a section of an important highway, which remained obstructed by debris, was freed and that economic activity and transportation at the state level were reactivated.

Meanwhile, the Mexican authorities stated that there are 25.611 people in the area to collaborate in the rescue efforts, of them 4.150 work in the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), 1.128 from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), 4.451 from the National Guard and 2.189 from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
