A total of 850 judicial positions will be the first to be elected in the elections scheduled for June 1, 2025, following the reform of the Judicial Branch that was enacted on September 15, as reported this Monday by the Government of Mexico.

The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, indicated during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference that it has been decided that there will be 850 judicial positions that will be elected by popular vote in the extraordinary election on June 1, 2025.

This occurred after the Senate held a raffle or insaculation on Saturday to select the vacancies in the Judiciary that will be elected in 2025.

Rodríguez commented that progress has been made in the implementation of the constitutional reform that establishes the election of judges through popular vote.

He recalled that on Saturday, after a seven-hour session, the Mexican Senate determined, through a raffle, that the first positions to be elected by popular vote are 464 magistrates and 386 federal courts.
