Numerous embassies and consulates in Cuba announced on their official social networks the closure and cancellation of visa appointments and interviews due to the energy collapse on the island. Details below.
According to a message on the social network Facebook, the United States Embassy in Havana reported that due to continuous power outages, the Consular Section of the Embassy will be open for emergency services only for this Monday, October 21.
“All routine services, including U.S. citizen services and visa appointments, will be rescheduled. There is no need to contact the Embassy, as information regarding rescheduling will be sent directly to applicants,” it reads.
They added that for US citizens who need emergency help, an email can be sent “to [email protected] or call +(53) (7) 839-4100; after hours dial 1, then 0.”

Likewise, the Consulate of Spain in the Cuban capital, reported that “as a consequence of the energy crisis, the Consulate General of Spain in Havana informs that from Monday, October 21 and until further notice, the offices in Lonja del Comercio will remain closed and, therefore, nationality and passport appointments are canceled ”.
“The offices of the Velasco Palace (Embassy) will remain open and, therefore, visa, marriage, notary and legalization appointments are held. Appropriately, the Consulate General will contact the people whose appointments have been canceled to assign them a new appointment,” they noted.
Along the same lines, the Embassy of Panama in Havana suspended service to the public at its headquarters and at the Consulate, until “further notice” due to the “energy situation.”
People with visa appointments or legalizations will be informed of the rescheduling of their appointment as soon as possible.
The Mexican Consulate in the Cuban capital also reported that service to the public was suspended until further notice due to the prevailing energy situation.
