Mexico City’s Azcapotzalco District under Purple Alert: Intense Rainfall & High-Risk Conditions

The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City activated this Thursday the purple alert in the mayor’s office Azcapotzalcodue to the intense fall of rain in that demarcation.

Capital Civil Protection classifies in four colors (levels) alerts for meteorological phenomena that plague the City:

Verde: Average conditions in Mexico City.
Yellow: Presence of light hydrometeors that cause damage if associated with other circumstances.
Rojo: Meteorological phenomena whose intensity causes damage.
Purple: Meteorological phenomena with intensity rarely recorded, which causes serious damage.

Through social networks, the Civil Protection of the capital issued the information sheet on the activation of the purple alert in Azcapotzalco, which foresees the fall of rain greater than 70 millimeters in 24 hourshail fall and wind gusts greater than 80 kilometers per hour.

The agency recommended to the residents of that demarcation that, in the event of a flood or landslide warning, evacuate the residence and give priority to children, the elderly and people with disabilities. Also, if you are in a public place, be careful about falling branches, trees and tarpaulins.

It also estimated “associated dangers” on heavy rains that will generate water currents on streets and avenues.

The period of this indicator contemplates this maximum measurement from 7:25 p.m. on Thursday until 12:00 a.m. on Friday, that is, at midnight on July 7.
