Mexico authorizes free passage of migrants with an appointment with CBP One. Details

The Mexican government authorized this weekend the transit of migrants with an appointment at CBP One, to access any of the entry points on the United States border to request asylum, media outlets reported.

Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) announced on August 23 that it will allow migrants with an appointment on the CBP One app to transit through its territory, following the recent expansion of access points for these appointments.

Until now, CBP One only operated on the border between Mexico and the United States (in cities in central-northern Mexico), but starting this Friday, migrants will be able to request appointments from the states of Tabasco and Chiapas, in the south of the Aztec nation, without having to travel to the north of the country.

“The INM will facilitate the safe, orderly, and regular transit of people with an appointment to appear at any of the eight CBP One entry points, located in Matamoros, Reynosa, and Nuevo Laredo in Tamaulipas; Piedras Negras in Coahuila; Ciudad Juárez in Chihuahua; Nogales in Sonora; and Mexicali and Tijuana in Baja California,” the INM reported in the red social X.

Migrants with CBP One and passing through Mexico

This week, Mexican immigration authorities met with representatives of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens and INM Commissioner Francisco Garduño Yáñez.

During the meeting, Mexico asked the United States to expand access to the application to ease the flow of migrants to the north, who are often intercepted by criminal groups during their journey.

Earlier this month, the online appointment program for migrants, CBP One, included the Mexican states of Chiapas and Tabasco. With this change, migrants will no longer have to travel to the north of the country to obtain one of the 1,450 daily appointments available.

You can now request an appointment with CBP One from southern Mexico, in the aforementioned states.
