SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) — Mexican divers Alejandra Orozco and Gabriella Agundez failed to return to the Olympic podium.
The Mexican couple finished fifth in Wednesday’s synchronized 10m platform event with a disappointing score of 297.66 points, dashing their hopes of winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.
To win medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, they must compete in individual events. Both competed in the 10m individual event, with Agundes finishing fourth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and fourth at the 2023 Fukuoka World Cup.
Orozco is seeking to become the fourth Mexican to win three or more medals at the Olympics. Maria del Rosario Espinsoza scored three points in taekwondo and Humberto Marais had the same number in equestrian events. The diving record is held by Joaquín Capilla (4).
This test was won by Chinese players Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan. Their score of 359.10 points endorsed the gold medal they won three years ago.
This medal is the third gold medal won by China in multiple events in Paris. Since the eighth event, the Chinese diving team has strived to dominate the entire program for the first time in history.
North Korea’s Jin Min Jo and Mi Rim won the silver medal with 315.90 points, while the bronze medal went to Britain’s Andrea Spendolini and Lois Tolson with 304.38 points.
