Mexican athlete out of Paris 2024 due to administrative error

MEXICO CITY.- One month after the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games the Mexican Andrea Palafox was notified that will no longer be able to attend the summer competitiondespite the fact that he had already been given an Olympic quota.

The sports shooter revealed that this situation was due to a administrative error.

“I have just been informed that I will not be attending Paris 2024 due to a mistake someone made when assigning the quota. I did not ask to be in this situation. It is very difficult to understand how such a deliberate decision can be made in such an important situation for an athlete,” she wrote on her Instagram account.

A few days ago Andrea Palafox was announced as one of the qualified athletes by the Mexican Shooting Federation. With this ticket you would participate in the 10 and 50 meter air rifle tests.

Unfortunately, the International Federation of this sport made a mistake when assigning the place.

Andrea Palafox would compete in the categories of 10 meter air rifle and in 50 meter air rifle three positions, but the organization indicated that it could only compete in the first, where Goretti Zumayahas a better place in the world rankings, so she will compete.

María José Alcalá, president of the Mexican Olympic Committee, explained the error in this ticket.

“We received a letter from the International Federation with the sorry and explaining the issues to us, we regret these errors that are not on the part of the mission leadership or the COM, but in the end they affect our athlete, there was no need to hurt her and make her emotional,” he explained.
