The New York Mets won their wild card series in the National League this Thursday with four runs scored in the ninth inning with which they beat the Brewers 4-2 in the heart of American Family Field in Milwaukee.

The Mets will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the Division Series, which will begin next Saturday and will be played in the best of five games.

Pete Alonso hit a three-run home run and Dominican Starling Marte added an RBI to the victory of the city dwellers in the Major League (MLB) duel.

Good start from Quintana

The Mets had an outstanding performance from Colombian left-hander José Quintana, who worked six innings of just four hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

Rookie Tobias Myers gave hope to the Milwaukee Brewers by pitching five innings in which he allowed two hits to Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor. He did not grant transfers and struck out five.

The locals unleashed themselves in the seventh inning against Venezuelan reliever José Buttó, whom Jake Bauers, who came off the bench as a pinch hitter, punished with a full-round home run to establish the first run.

Sal Frelick repeated the dose to Buttó and added the second line.

After Myers’ work, Trevor Megill, Nick Mears and the Dominican Freddy Peralta took the mound, who handed the game with a lead (2-0) to closer Devin Williams in the ninth inning.

Bad relief from Williams

Williams walked Lindor and Brandon Nimmo singled him to right field, setting the stage for Alonso, who did not forgive and turned the score around 3-2.

The Mets added another undisputed by Marte that took Jesse Winker to the register.

Puerto Rican Edwin Díaz (1-0) struck out three batters in 1.2 scoreless innings and took the victory for the Mets, while the save was credited to David Peterson (1-0), who struck out an opponent and completed the ninth without news.

Williams (0-1) allowed four runs in two-thirds on the mound and was the defeated pitcher for the Brewers, who are once again unable to advance in a postseason series.
