Metro Theater in Upper West Side Set for Indie Revival After Two Decades

The Metro Theater, an iconic venue on the Upper West Side, is poised for a remarkable revival as a platform for independent films.

After being dormant for two decades, this beloved landmark is on the verge of reopening, thanks to a dedicated non-profit organization that has inked a $7 million deal to acquire the historic movie house, contingent upon successful fundraising.

Having already secured $2 million in initial funds, the group is optimistic about raising the remaining capital by January to bring the theater back to life.

If the ambitious project comes to fruition, the Metro Theater will address a significant gap in the local arts scene created by the shuttering of several independent cinema establishments, particularly in and around Lincoln Center.
