2023 was characterized by high food inflation that affected household income and labor shortages across the supermarket industry.
METRO, recognizing the contribution of its people in the My market and METRO Cash & Carry stores, as well as in the Distribution Centers, proceeds from 01/01/2024 with wage increases setting the minimum, gross, total wages at €900, for full-time employees . Thus, monthly earnings are 15.4% higher than the statutory minimum wage. At the same time, allowances relating to specific positions of responsibility and specializations in the Store Network and Distribution Centers are increasing, thus boosting the income of employees even more. Specifically, the fixed allowances affect 76% of the company’s human resources, while 66% of the total can receive an extraordinary bonus, based on the achievement of goals.
In addition, the extraordinary provision given last year is renewed for another year and concerns “Insurance policies for the contents of homes at risk”, of annual duration, with coverage up to €3,000, with the aim of protecting the property in case of theft or natural disasters, for the whole of the company’s employees.
The amount of the company’s total increases & additional benefits to its people in the Stores and Distribution Centers will exceed €14 million for 2024.
Recognizing the contribution and rewarding the efforts of frontline workers, these increases will improve the company’s level of pay and benefits, reaffirming its commitment to supporting its people over time.
