Meteorologists fired in Hungary due to weather forecast August 22, 2022 – Society – Saint-Petersburg News

The Hungarian government fired the president of the National Meteorological Agency (NMS), Cornelia Radic, and her deputy, Gyula Horváth, over the weather forecast.

According to a local publication Digi24, on Saturday, the National Day of Hungary, a big fireworks display was to take place in Budapest. However, forecasters warned that strong winds and storms were possible in the city, and the event was rescheduled for August 27.

Note that on August 20 in Budapest there really was a thunderstorm, but apparently not too serious.

Pro-government media criticized the weather forecast. “They are [синоптики] provided false information regarding the severity of the weather, which misled the task force responsible for security, ”the media wrote. After that, on August 22, the Minister of Industry and Technology dismissed Radić and Horvat.

Hungarians pay special attention to weather forecasts following a strong storm hit the Danube during celebrations in 2006, killing five people and injuring several hundred.
