Meteorological alert for strong storms in 11 provinces

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow alert for this Sunday for storms in 11 provinces of the national territory. The population of the affected areas must wait “possible meteorological phenomena with the capacity for damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities”.

The affected provinces, some totally and others partially, are: Buenos Aires, Misiones, Chaco, Formosa, Santiago del Estero, Corrientes, Córdoba, Santa Fe, La Rioja, San Luis and La Pampa.

The NMS also issued short-term notices (ACP) for certain territories. In part of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Corrientes and Entre Ríos, strong storms are anticipated with heavy rain, gusty winds and occasional hail for the next three hours.

In twelve localities of Misiones, it was forecast strong storms with heavy rain and gusty winds.

In this context, the agency suggests that the population stay in closed buildings; secure objects that can be thrown by the wind; stay away from trees; avoid driving through flooded streets; cut off electricity supply if there is a risk of water entering a home and do not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools.

As detailed by the SMN, the alert for storms extends during the day today and part of tomorrow, Monday.

In addition, the body under the direction of Andrea Celeste Saulo issued a series of recommendations.

1. Secure objects that can be thrown by the wind;

2. Stay away from trees as the force of the wind could break some of their branches;

3. Do not park vehicles under trees;
