Météo France places 60 departments on orange alert for this Saturday

The meteorological institute evokes a “very strong stormy activity” for the first day of the weekend. This followingnoon, special attention will be paid to Pays de la Loire, Normandy and Île-de-France.

Early this Saturday, Météo France placed 60 departments on orange vigilance for thunderstorms. From the Pyrénées-Atlantiques to the Seine-Maritime, it is therefore a vast majority of the hexagonal territory which will experience significant precipitation for this first day of the weekend, according to the meteorological institute.

“Very strong stormy activity this followingnoon and this evening from the Channel coasts to the North-East and to the South-West of the country. Intense rains, heavy hail and violent gusts of wind are expected locally”, specifies on its Weather site. France.

40 to 60mm of precipitation expected

After a relative calm this morning, the thunderstorms should regain strength in the followingnoon, over the Pays de la Loire, Normandy, Île-de-France, the Massif Central and the south-west of the country. In the evening, the disturbances will reach the Center, Burgundy, Champagne and Picardy. 40mm to 60mm of rainfall is expected locally.

“The risk of large hail is significant, particularly in the South-West and the Massif Central”, adds Météo France.

Only the departments in the south-east of the country, the Pyrénées-Orientales and Corsica will be spared by these storms. Météo France has classified them as “green”.

30 to 34 degrees in the southeast quarter

As for the temperatures, at daybreak, the minimum temperatures will be between 11 and 16 degrees in the northern half, 15 to 19 degrees in the southern half and will reach up to 22 degrees in Corsica.

In the followingnoon, it will still be warm overall, especially in the southeastern quarter with 30 to 34 degrees, but no more than 19 to 25 degrees near the Channel and Atlantic coasts. It will be 25 to 29 degrees elsewhere in general.
