Trade unions sharply criticize the government and employers

Vienna (OTS) The fourth round of negotiations between the PRO-GE and GPA unions and the Metal Technology Industry Association (FMTI) in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce begins on November 2nd at 11 a.m.

The unions are demanding a new, negotiable offer from the employer side. If there is no agreement on Thursday, there will be a strike from November 6th. The ÖGB’s strike clearance has already been obtained.

“Now things are getting serious. The record number of company meetings in recent days has shown that employees are ready to fight for fair wage and salary increases. The employees expect a respectful offer,” say Reinhold Binder (PRO-GE) and Karl Dürtscher (GPA).

The two trade unionists criticize the fact that both the federal government and employers are passing the burden of inflation onto the population and employees. The federal government has failed to combat inflation.

“More and more people are already staring at a deficit in their bank accounts at the beginning of the month, while bills and liabilities continue to pile up. It’s really audacious for the government to pat itself on the back now that October inflation is 5.4 percent. Everyone knows that price levels continue to rise sharply and that inflation has been significantly lower in other countries such as Germany for months,” say Binder and Dürtscher.

In this difficult situation for employees, employers apparently also want to shirk responsibility. “To now leave your own employees, whose work has been devalued by ten percent due to inflation, out in the cold is irresponsible,” say Binder and Dürtscher and point out once once more that the high price increases in the past Wage and salary negotiations must be taken into account, otherwise there is a risk of massive real wage losses.
