Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1 will have a splash screen warning to alert players that some content may not be considered appropriate for today.

According to the GamesRadar website, the compilation opens with a message that the original content has been maintained and some scenes may have a different impact than 25 years ago.

The collection opens with a message saying that the game’s expressions and themes may be considered old-fashioned, but have been kept unchanged to preserve the historical context in which the game was developed, embodying its creator’s original vision.

Although it doesn’t directly mention Hideo Kojima’s name, the part that cites the creator’s original vision directly refers to him. The legendary game director was known for bringing controversy into his games.

The notice doesn’t detail which scenes are considered old-fashioned, but they could refer to the way the game portrays female characters and how the spy Snake treats women. In a scene considered controversial, Dr. Naomi says that the hero will be able to search her without clothes if he completes the mission.

Another controversial point of the franchise is the frequent use of cigarettes and cigars, mainly in some moments of MSX2 in which the player could use the item to calm Snake and make certain parts of the game easier, implying that smoking would bring benefits.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1 will be released in October 24th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. It includes the first three Metal Gear Solid, the MSX2 versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, as well as the Super Nintendo games Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge.
