Meta is suing the owner of the MyStalk clone site. The parent company of Instagram and Facebook claims that the individual fraudulently extracted the data of 350,000 users, including photos and videos, using automated Instagram accounts. The company Octopus, which provides software capable of extracting this type of data, is also being sued by Meta.
In a blog post, Meta mentions having already filed a lawsuit once morest MyStalk last year. The social media giant reportedly demanded the owner cease operations. Meta also repeatedly blocked the individual’s access to Facebook and Instagram services.
Over 100 clone sites identified
Meta believes that clone sites such as MyStalk damage the credibility of its platform. Since the first half of 2021, Meta has identified more than a hundred clone sites.
