Meta Quest 3, the new generation of Meta’s virtual reality glasses, was announced by Mark Zuckerberg this past Thursday (1). According to the statement published on the company’s website, the Quest 3 brings a higher resolution, better performance, Meta Reality technology and a slimmer form factor compared to previous generations. With 128GB of storage, the “headset” will launch for $499.
According to Meta, the Quest 3 features a new state-of-the-art Snapdragon chipset made in collaboration with Qualcomm. The company says that the new processor offers twice the graphics performance compared to the Quest 2. In addition, through “Meta Reality” technology, there is a better combination of the real (physical) world with the virtual, responding intelligently to objects in the place, allowing the user to navigate the environment in a more natural and intuitive way.
Game library and compatibility with older titles
Fortunately, Quest 2’s library of more than games is compatible with Quest 3. Same goes for apps too. As a result, the buyer of Meta’s new virtual reality glasses will be able to use them without worrying regarding content consumption.
Quest 2 will be cheaper and will get a new update
Effective June 4, 2023, Meta has announced that it will reduce the price of the Quest 2 to $299.99 for the 128GB version and $349.99 for the 256GB model. In addition, the company says it will provide a software update that will bring a 26% increase in CPU performance and 19% increase in GPU performance. There will also be the implementation of Dynamic Resolution Scaling to increase the density of pixels without losing frames per second.
