Meta’s metaverse platform has been in a lot of bad news lately. Despite the recent announcement of new devices and features, Horizon Worlds is reportedly experiencing far less user numbers than expected and is declining.
According to the Wall Street Journal, they obtained internal Meta documents and found that although Meta originally aimed to have Horizon Worlds exceed 500,000 monthly active users by the end of the year, the number so far is less than 200,000, which is quite far from the goal. And the documents show that most users don’t use it following the first month, and the number of users has steadily declined since this spring.
Horizon Worlds, as Meta’s flagship product in the Metaverse, has high expectations. President Mark Zuckerberg hopes to develop this platform into an open virtual world, where work or entertainment can be performed through the personal avatar platform on the platform. It is their main product following Facebook. In response to the news, Meta said that they will launch a Web version of Horizon for computers and mobile devices within this year, but did not disclose a specific date.
