A Meta finally started testing to integrate the posts from Threads — its social network competitor to X (formerly Twitter) — with Mastodon and other networks that support the protocol ActivityPub.
Mark ZuckerbergCEO of the company, highlighted the importance of this step, emphasizing that allowing Threads to work with the interoperable standard will expand users’ choice in interactions and increase the reach of content.
From the beginning, integration with ActivityPub was promised as one of the priorities for Threads — given previous statements by Adam Mosseri (head of Instagram) regarding the importance of decentralizing the platform to serve new creators. It’s been a while, but it’s finally here.
Although the current testing phase does not encompass full and unrestricted integration between Meta’s new social network and the platforms that use the protocol, the stage signals the giant’s commitment to ActivityPub and participation in a more open internet.
The news follows some previous moves by Zuckerberg’s platform, such as the introduction of profile verification through Mastodon. However, specific details regarding the newly announced tests have not been released.
