Meta deepens the incorporation of Threads into its ecosystem

Some Facebook users noted during the week that they could post to both the social network and the Twitter house, Threads. These would be tests for a future cross-publishing option. At the same time, the Meta Moderation Oversight Committee announced coverage of the new network.

Threads and Facebook same fight

Can we imagine Twitter being filled with Facebook posts and vice versa? Not sure that users of both platforms want it. However, this is a path that Meta is currently exploring for Threads. TechCrunch observed tests in this direction.

The company confirmed to the media that it is carrying out limited experiments. They take place on iOS and outside the European Union. The goal of Meta is probably to make the work of content creators easier, but also to improve the number of publications on Threads.

As of last quarter, the social network had 130 million monthly active users. A great performance, but one that Meta undoubtedly hopes to multiply with cross-publication. The company’s services have a total of nearly 4 billion users. A cross-posting feature already exists for Stories between Facebook and Instagram.

It seems logical that the latest addition, Threads, is fully integrated into the Meta ecosystem. The application, from its launch, has been linked to Instagram, the addition of Facebook seems like a logical continuation. Yet it can also raise questions.

Users do not post the same thing or in the same way on Instagram, Facebook and Threads. The microblogging service wants to stand out from Twitter. Faced with the social network renowned for its toxicity, especially since Elon Musk owns it, Meta sells a space where kindness takes precedence.

What is the price of this kindness? THE Washington Post revealed quickly after the release of Threads that terms like vaccines, Covid, sex or porn were censored on the site.

The Oversight Board, Meta’s external oversight committee, decided during the week to extend its powers to Threads. He arbitrates conflicts between users and Meta moderation, particularly regarding the deletion of publications or accounts. It is not certain that “benevolence” wins within this committee in the face of freedom of expression.
