Meta adds new features to unrecognized encrypted conversations in Messenger

Mark Zuckerberg himself announced the arrival of a new Facebook Messenger update. It particularly concerns encrypted conversations, those providing maximum security to users. What, why not, drop WhatsApp for Facebook’s historical messaging application.

It is in a blog post that Mark Zuckerberg announced the arrival of this new update aimed at making Messenger’s secure conversations more attractive. In fact, Meta will simply add features already present on the “classic” version of the instant messaging service.

More customization

Thanks to this update, it will be possible to add themes to each conversation, use personalized emojis, change group profile photos and preview the links sent in an encrypted conversation. On Android, the update will also support chat bubbles.

No revolution therefore, but these new additions will have the merit of making encrypted conversations more attractive to users. Moreover, Meta strives to add end-to-end encryption to existing conversations. Meta specifies that these changes will be spread over several months. Users will be notified when the changes are effective on their conversations.

Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram, three Meta applications, offer different levels of encryption. The long-term objective is to standardize all this and offer maximum security to all users, on all applications. As for Messenger, other updates will arrive in the course of 2023.
