Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino said on Friday that Lionel Messi will not be in action this Saturday for his club’s Leagues Cup debut against Puebla, as he continues to have problems with his right ankle.
“Leo will not play tomorrow and Luis (Suárez) has inflammation in his knee and we will evaluate him until the last moment,” Martino said at the press conference the day before.
Messi is suffering from ligament problems in his right ankle, which he suffered in the Copa América final on July 14.

“They don’t see him because he’s only working with the physical therapists. He’ll still have a few more days with that boot (ankle protector), and then we’ll see when he’ll be able to go out on the field,” Martino said.
“But that ankle is getting better and better. He is in good spirits, as you can imagine, as he must be knowing that he cannot play. He knows that times are times, and we must respect them,” he added about Messi.
Defending champions Inter Miami make their home debut this Saturday against Puebla in the new edition of the Leagues Cup, which pits MLS clubs against those from the Mexican Liga MX for a month.
“It’s totally false news, I have no other impression,” he said when asked about this possible replacement for Messi.
