While Saturday, December 17, the accident at the carousel located near the Corum caused two non-serious injuries, one of the victims decided to file a complaint. The case is still ongoing.
Saturday December 17, around 9 p.m., a part of the carousel structure located near the Corum broke. “It made a big boom. So much that we thought it was an explosion”explains a Christmas market trader.
A malfunction of the central part of the structure which tipped the sleds, where the people were seated, vertically, more than 2.50 meters high. The accident resulted in the fall of two adults, one injured in the wrist, and the second left with neck and back pain. A complaint was also filed at the police station by one of the victims. As for the children, they had a few bruises, caused by being crushed under the weight of their parents in the baskets.
And if today the reasons for this disruption have not yet been determined, an independent expert has been commissioned to examine the carousel. The prosecution is also considering a possible opening of a judicial investigation although, for the moment, nothing has yet been recorded.
Thirty minutes of maintenance last week
Especially since according to a young father who came the Saturday before (December 10), the carousel has already had to be stopped. “I came with my children and we wanted to do the carousel. But for thirty minutes, the carousel was stopped. From what we understood, there was a maintenance problem. But we didn’t no more information”he testifies.
An unconfirmed interruption on the side of the shopkeeper, located not far from the carousel in question, and which maintains that the maintenance has always been done correctly. “Every morning, there is someone who runs the merry-go-round empty to check that everything is working. We really don’t know what might have happenedshe says. Especially since in order for a carousel to be installed on the Christmas market, it is checked beforehand.”
A point on which we questioned the City, in particular on the procedure for selecting rides and their technical monitoring. The latter did not respond to our requests. In the meantime, the merry-go-round will remain closed until the end of the Christmas market on December 26 (as a reminder, on December 25 the market will also be closed).
