Like every year, on the occasion of the annual Walloon Festival, the Walloon government awards decorations to the winners of the Merits of Honor of Wallonia.

This year, 20 personalities were rewarded this Saturday noon.

The Merits of Honor of Wallonia were created in 2011 in order to “dedicate the recognition of the Walloon authorities to all people whose talent or merit brings honor to Wallonia to an exceptional extent and thus contributes significantly to its influence“.

It is also regarding rewarding people whose journey can serve as an example.

The Merits of Honor are composed of four ranks: Medal, Knight, Officer and Commander.

This year, the Walloon Government has chosen to highlight 10 Walloons and 10 Walloons.

These personalities have diverse profiles (humanitarian worker, astronaut, singer, artist, business leader, journalist, entrepreneur, high-level sportswoman, researcher, etc.), are active in very different fields (the sector humanitarian, business, scientific research, space, education, culture, journalism, feminism, social action, environmental protection and even sport).

“Wallonia is full of talents of which we must be proud. All these personalities symbolize the tremendous human wealth that our Region contains. They represent the best in Wallonia, through their determination, their commitments and their work. All these paths are paths which inspire us, which show us the way and which are examples to follow for all Walloons”, declared Elio Di Rupo, the Walloon Minister-President.

Saturday evening, it will be the turn of a “hope” category to be in the spotlight. The “Etincelles de Wallonie” were in fact created for promising Walloon talents.
