During his visit to the state of Mérida on June 13, 2024, Nicolas Maduro ordered that the Onia road problem and the paving of the road be resolved within a period of 20 days.
The Onia bridge is already placed on the reinforced concrete piles or bases with a depth of 12 meters, which will support it, so its commissioning might soon be announced and thus improve the problem of traffic between the city of El Vigía, Alberto Adriani municipality of the state of Mérida, with the town of La Tendida, in the state of Táchira.
The teams are working on compacting the ground and then paving 110 meters of road, 35 on one side and 75 on the other, in addition to the sections and floors of the almost 60 meters of the bridge, detailed Jehyson Guzmán, governor of the entity, assuring that the work will be delivered on time, including the patching carried out from the city of El Vigía to the border with the state of Táchira, in the Guaruríes sector.
The new bridge placed over the Onia River, on Trunk 001, will replace the old iron bridge that in the sixties allowed the passage of vehicles and cargo transportation, until last February 8, 2023, a landslide of the nearby hill, swept away the foundations and consequently tore the bridge from its place, leaving two people dead and causing problems for users to move from one place to another, generating the annoyance of neighbors and producers in the area, who asked the government to install the new bridge, as well as the asphalting of the road, which they had been waiting for several years.
Likewise, on July 11, the Mérida government reported on “the progress of 68% of the asphalt works between the Julio César Salas and Alberto Adriani municipalities.” These works include “resurfacing, major and minor patching, demarcation and signage” up to Guaruries and Escalante” where they have poured 700 metric tons of asphalt, according to the institutional press release.
