Archyde news Exclusive: An Interview with Merel Ek on Her Pregnancy Journey
Archyde News Editor: good evening, Merel. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us today. We’re thrilled to celebrate this joyous news with you!
Merel Ek: Thank you,its a pleasure to be here. I’m really excited to share this journey with our audience.
Ed: Let’s dive right in. You recently announced your pregnancy on ‘De Oranjewinter’ and then again on ‘Vandaag Inside.’ What made you decide to share the news with your viewers at this stage?
Merel: Well, I’m almost 20 weeks along now, so I’ve reached that stage where it’s become quite obvious. I’ve always been open and authentic with my viewers, and I felt it was only right to share this special time with them as well. Plus, I wanted to continue working for as long as possible, and I knew I’d need some time off later, so I thought it was a good time to let everyone know.
Ed: That’s splendid. and viewers are known to appreciate your transparency. Speaking of working, how has your pregnancy been treating you so far? You mentioned feeling a bit nauseous initially, but things seem to have settled down.
Merel: Yes,thankfully, that’s true. I was a bit worried when the morning sickness hit, but it wasn’t too severe.I’m grateful for that. I’ve also been needing a little more rest than usual, but I feel quite good. I’m experiencing the usual pregnancy symptoms, like heartburn and backaches, but nothing I can’t handle.
Ed: That’s grate to hear. Now, one of the most exciting aspects of welcoming a new life is choosing a name. I understand you and your partner are still deciding between René and Johan. Can you tell us more about the selection process?
Merel: (Laughs) Oh, it’s been quite the process! We’ve always loved traditional Dutch names, and we both agree that it needs to be something unique yet familiar. René and Johan are names that have been passed down in our families, so they hold special meaning for us. We’re still weighing our options, though. We don’t want to rush into it, but we also don’t want to leave it to the last minute!
Ed: (chuckles) I’m sure you’ll make the perfect choice when the time comes. Now,we know you’ll be taking some time off after giving birth. Do you have any plans for when you return to work?
Merel: Honestly, I haven’t given it too much thought yet. I want to focus on my baby and my partner for now. But I do know that SBS 6 is very supportive, and they’ve assured me that there will be a place for me when I’m ready to return. I’m looking forward to continuing my career while also being a mother.
Ed: We’re confident that you’ll find the perfect balance. Thank you so much for joining us today, Merel. We wish you all the best during this incredible journey, and we can’t wait to see you back on our screens after your maternity leave.
Merel: Thank you for having me. I look forward to it, too. See you soon!
