Toto Wolff, the head of the Mercedes F1 team, said Ferrari has disappointed F1 fans by “being crazy” in the title battle.
Ferrari made a breakthrough in the 2022 F1 season, with Charles Leclerc winning two in the first three Grand Prix, but the team hasn’t won the race since Australia.
Instead, Red Bull Racing went wild and won six straight games as a team, five of which were Max Verstappen. As a result, in the Drivers’ Championship, Red Bull Racing is 1-2, Verstappen is 46 points behind Sergio Perez, and Charles Leclerc is another 3 points behind.
Toto Wolff says Ferrari is disappointing F1 fans.
“I wish Leclerc had played on the front lines,” Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, told Motorsport-Total.com.
“If so, it would have been really good for F1, but they (Ferrari) are now crazy.”
“It’s good that the world champion hasn’t been decided yet in September and it’s not over.”
Last season, Mercedes F1 fought for the title with Red Bull Racing until the final lap of the final race, and Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi to win his first F1 World Champion.
Former Red Bull F1 driver Mark Webber said Max Verstappen is likely to win the title this year with a few races to spare.
But Charles Leclerc is determined to prove that Mark Webber is wrong.
“I’m not worried,” said Charles Leclerc.
“The gap is big, but I’m just focused on my work and I’m sure we can get it back.”
“Of course I know the car has a pace and that’s more motivating me.”
“I’m not worried. I’ve managed to have a clean weekend and am very motivated to show that we are strong.”
Charles Leclerc has not been able to reach the podium in two retirements in the last four races, partly because Ferrari started from the last row grid in Canada with a new power unit on the F1-75 due to reliability issues. ..
“Reliability will definitely be a big issue,” admitted Charles Leclerc.
“Red Bull also had some problems. We need to consistently score good points.”
“I think this season will be a problem for everyone, and if you understand that, there is a performance that you can fight back.”
“If you can reach the finish, you can fight for victory. At Silverstone, we aim to make up for some points.”
