“Thank you for having created such an important institutional space for women and diversities such as the National Directorate of Economy, Equality and Gender in the Ministry of Economy,” said D’Alessandro, adding: “I am proud to have had your trust. for this milestone.
After announcing that this will be his last week in his role, D’Alessandro assured that his exit will be with happiness. “I am leaving very happy because the results of our work are visible: Argentine women set a record for activity and employment. We built that together with women governing the entire country, ”she stressed.
“We had great challenges in our first steps, including collaborating with the design and implementation of the IFE, the 1st Budget with a gender perspective, Menstrual Justice, the measurement of the contribution of care to the GDP, among many things that we put into schedule,” he listed.
Through a series of posts on Twitter, the until now National Director of Economy, Equality and Gender anticipated that her replacement will be Sun Tight. “Today the Ministry of Economy is proudly feminist. And, in addition, there is still a work space that Sol Prieto will lead, with women who contribute day by day in the construction of more equality and opportunities. Feminist economics is here to stay,” she closed.
One of the reasons behind the departure of D’Alessandro would be linked to the little space that, they consider, they gave her in the ministry. Close to the Ph.D. in Economics, they expressed dissatisfaction with the room for maneuver that she had and told THE NATION that, in the last two years, the focus was only on the debt and the IMF. They stated that “there is no room to grow”, neither in structure nor in themes. That direction, they criticized, did not have a special role for the “big issues” and was only called to give an opinion on gender issues. “It was not given place in the macro issues,” they questioned.
On the other hand, already regarding the government of Alberto Fernández, close to the specialist, they indicated that, with each change of cabinet, the new spaces were always for men.
Born in Posadas (Misiones), D’Alessandro has a doctorate in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires, where he taught for 15 years. She, in turn, was director of the Political Economy career at the National University of General Sarmiento. Last year she was selected by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential emerging leaders in the world.
Also specializing in gender issues, she founded the NGO Feminist Economy in 2015. The following year he published feminist economics. How to build an egalitarian society (without losing the glamour)which is now in its fifth edition and has sold more than 25,000 copies in various Latin American countries.
In 2018 it was highlighted by L’Oréal Paris as one of the most inspiring contemporary Argentine women in a photo exhibit. That same year she was also highlighted as one of the most relevant intellectuals of Latin America by the Avina Foundation. The following year, Ashoka Argentina recognized her as a social entrepreneur.
