Mercado Livre comments on controversy over Black Friday coupon and social media

Not last Saturday, (25), X (Twitter) and Reclame Aqui were taken over by complaints from users trying to redeem the R$1,000 discount coupon offered by Mercado Livre during Rede Globo programming as part of the “Tá na Mão” promotion, an action promoted during Black Friday 2023.

Amidst the complaints, extremely controversial and controversial responses emerged from Mercado Livre’s official automatic response bot on X, indicating that the account might have been hacked.

Mercado Livre contacted TudoCelular and explained the case, in addition to providing more details regarding the third and final stage of the promotion, which was scheduled for next Monday (27).

Given the extraordinary interest in the promotion, Mercado Pago doubled the number of coupons initially allocated for activation, making 2,000 discount codes available. Still, unfortunately, some users were unable to take advantage of the flash offer, which sold out within minutes.

Other users experienced difficulties when applying the coupon at the time of payment, due to instability on the platform during activation. These cases are already being verified and handled by Mercado Livre’s consumer support team.

Regarding the offensive comments published by the automatic response bot, the company reveals that this happened due to users who changed their nicknames on the social network, causing the responses to be generated in that way:

The offensive comments that appear in responses to users on the company’s profile on X (Twitter) were not written by our teams. Unfortunately, some users changed their name to offensive phrases, which appeared at the beginning of the page’s automated responses. We have already resolved this issue, and we remain vigilant to ensure that users also have the best experience on our network.

Finally, the brand confirms that the third part of the promotion has been cancelled, and that the R$500 discount coupons on purchases starting at R$700, which would be distributed on Monday (27), during the Encontro program, was suspended.

With the high demand for the coupons offered yesterday, Mercado Pago’s special program for Black Friday has already sold out. As a result, the activation scheduled for tomorrow (11/27) has been suspended.

Despite having punctuated all the questions, it is possible that new chapters of this soap opera will emerge in the coming days, as many consumers have activated PROCON.

Black Friday 2023: Mercado Livre coupon generates errors and chaos on social media

Last Friday (24), Brazilian retail celebrated another edition of Black Friday, a date known for offering consumers very attractive discounts on various products, but as always, many retailers and brands also took the opportunity to try, in a way, deceive customers, whether with ineffective discounts or dubious promotional campaigns.

Mercado Livre, one of the largest digital stores in the country, also tried to carry out a promotional campaign for the Black Friday period, but it ended up becoming a real fiasco and generating numerous problems.

During Black Friday 2023, Mercado Livre announced on social media that it would distribute two promotional coupons amid Rede Globo programming.

Called “Tá na Mão”, the campaign would release the coupons during advertisements where there was a handshake and a bell indicating that the discount was available to the first 1,000 users who paid for their purchases exclusively with their Mercado Pago balance.

The first coupon was distributed during the Encontro Program, on November 23rd. With it, users had a R$500 discount on purchases starting at R$700.

The big problem occurred with the distribution of the second coupon, made on Saturday (25), during the Altas Horas program. O coupon worth R$1,000 It was certainly highly competitive, given the popularity that the campaign achieved, but its result was catastrophic.

Thousands of people reported on X (Twitter) various problems when trying to redeem the coupon. Some claim that, even though they were able to apply the discount to the purchase, they were charged the full amount, while others claim that the website presented several errors when finalizing the purchase, preventing it from being completed.

Reclame Aqui was flooded with complaints from users who felt aggrieved, with new complaints constantly emerging.

To make matters worse, some users managed to tamper with the response bot on Mercado Livre’s official profile on X (Twitter), generating extremely controversial responses that further tarnish the retailer’s reputation. Check out some captures made by our team below.

So far, the company has not commented on the case, but it is worth noting that the campaign will also have another R$500 coupon for purchases starting at R$700, which will be distributed on Monday (27), during the Encounter program.
