This was stated by María Eugenia Rubio, Mercado Libre’s IT HR Manager for the interior of Argentina, who highlighted that there are more than a hundred people in the country who already work remotely for the company and that regarding a dozen of them have been doing so since our city incorporated into technology work teams.
Mercado Libre, the multinational company of Argentine origin dedicated to electronic commerce in Latin America, has a presence in 18 Latin American countries and as part of its growth plan at the regional level, it was proposed to incorporate 14 thousand new collaborators for the different tasks. Specifically, it expects to grow its technology teams by 4,000 people.
“In Argentina that number goes to 1,130 people. This implies the possibility of giving it to all the people who live in the country to join our teams,” said Rubio.
The salient data is that in December 2021 Mercado Libre announced that it was starting its full remote contracting project with the option of face-to-face. The interviewee stressed that this implies “that people can work from home 100 percent if they need to or geographical conditions do not allow them to go to an office frequently.”
In this sense, he highlighted that priority is given to the people who join “they can join our culture, that they feel comfortable, comfortable.”
He described his employees and those who seek to join their teams as people who characterize them “strongly by the entrepreneurial spirit, wanting to take on challenges, being curious and feeling comfortable with changes. It is a very large market and we are always looking in the user and in providing different solutions to connect with our purpose of democratizing trade and financial services throughout the region”.
Then, he noted that being “such a changing market, it constantly challenges us to iterate on the solutions we provide to our users in order to generate excellent experiences.”
Those who make up Mercado Libre love to work as a team, something that Rubio defined as “co-creating.” Over the years, the company created a large ecosystem of products that is made up of Mercado Créditos, Mercado Pagos, Mercado Envios, Mercado Shop, etc.
Once the person feels comfortable with the culture created by Mercado Libre, what the company looks for in the applicants are more specific questions according to the needs of the team profiles to which they are going to incorporate personnel.
The IT HR Manager stated that for the technology teams, they look for “people who are passionate regarding technology and who know regarding it. There are various ways to train in this knowledge. Back-end, Front-end or mobile are the technologies that we are needing “.
From Tandil, people can apply for any search (developers) and the degree of technological knowledge they must have will depend on the different levels.
“In turn, we have a program called Bootcamp that is aimed at people who may not have as much experience or who have experience in other technologies than Mercado Libre and want to be trained in ours,” Rubio stressed.
LIST OF TECHNOLOGIES
To achieve incorporation into the company, you must pass a technical exam and an interview process. Those selected enter the program and are collaborators with an assigned salary.
“The program lasts two months, they are educated and trained in the technologies and when the program ends, they are already part of a specific work team with challenges for the business units,” he explained.
The way to sign up is to go to www.mercadoilibre.com/empleos and filter the search with the ‘remote’ option. There you will find all the remote work alternatives that Mercado Libre offers.
Rubio said that the company’s ecosystem is clearly growing, so “there are many possibilities for growth for its employees. We have a very entrepreneurial spirit and we want people to be able to ‘steer’ their own development. This means that people propose , they get into the challenges and, in turn, they design the professional growth plan together with their leaders”.
