A mentally deranged attacker stabbed two women with a knife at a Hong Kong mall.
The 39-year-old was arrested at the scene, the police reported on Saturday. The offender had a history of mental illness.
He was schizophrenic and in psychiatric treatment, the newspaper quoted South China Morning Post a medical source.
The crime happened late Friday followingnoon at the Plaza Hollywood shopping center in the Diamond Hill neighborhood of east Kowloon Peninsula.
The perpetrator first bought a 30 centimeter long knife and 15 minutes later stabbed a 22-year-old woman several times from behind, Hong Kong media reported on the course of events.
Her 26-year-old girlfriend tried to fend off the attacker, who then stabbed her too. Both women died in hospital from their injuries.
