New research shows that mental health problems are now the main reason behind sick holidays in Britain, costing employers billions of pounds.
And according to what was reported by Bloomberg News Agency, quoting the research, today, Wednesday, 85 million days of absence were recorded during the last quarter of 2022, and the loss is estimated at regarding 12.3 billion pounds.
About 20 percent of these absences were caused by mental health problems.
The analysis prepared by the “Good Ship” Foundation, which provides consultations in the field of employee performance, health and well-being, showed that the health crisis that erupted during the “Corona” epidemic period worsened two years following the lifting of the restrictions to combat the epidemic.
The research pointed to increased burdens for employers who are already struggling to find staff, following hundreds of thousands of workers have been out of the workforce since the pandemic, many of whom have taken sick leave.
The pressures on employers led to higher salaries, and also contributed to the high rate of inflation, and had negative effects on the rate of productivity, which has been growing slowly since the financial crisis that occurred 15 years ago.
Today, Wednesday, figures from the National Bureau of Statistics in Britain showed that worker productivity declined by 0.2 percent since the last quarter of last year, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
