2023-07-27 00:16:31

Winston-Salem.- Men, much like women, should go to the doctor every year and following they turn 20.

The reason? To keep an eye on your health in general. And it is that there are five indicators that tell if something is not right and specialized attention is needed.

These are: cholesterol level, blood sugar or glucose level, blood pressure, body mass index, and waist measurement.

All these values speak of the general health of a person and if they are taken care of and controlled so that they are always within the healthy range, the person can live longer and better for longer.

In the United States, these values are called health numbers.

“Men should start watching their levels in their 20s,” says Stanley Howard, coordinator of men’s health for the Forsyth Department of Public Health in Winston-Salem.

If there is no chronic illness, he says, you should have an annual physical exam.

But if you already have one, such as diabetes, your doctor will need to see you more often.

In Winston-Salem there is a program within the Department of Public Health that focuses on addressing the physical and mental health of men.

It helps them learn regarding chronic diseases and prevent them through education.
