A person can be a healthy carrier of meningococcal B, without having symptoms, but can continue to transmit it to others. ARS Grand Est called for vaccination once morest this disease.
A sixth case
Six cases of infection contaminated by the meningococcus B were identified at Strasbourg since the beginning of November, including one death to be deplored. As reminded TF1, the last case was recorded on January 5. A 16 year old young man residing in the Lower Rhine had, like the previous cases, to be hospitalized.
For’ARS Great East, this proves that the strain continues to circulate in the agglomeration. In a press release, she specified that the epidemiological investigations made it possible “to identify and treat as a preventive measure with antibiotics people who have been in contact at risk with this 6ᵉ case“.
Vaccination should be continued.
Faced with this worrying health situation, the authorities called for the vaccination. “Today, we have six cases with the same strain of meningococcal B. This means that this bacterium circulates in the territory. This is why we must continue this vaccination“, urged Arielle Brunnerdirector of theARS Great East.
This manager recommended continuing the vaccination at least for several months, so that serious cases can be avoided as much as possible. As of January 5, 151 people have received a first dose of vaccination once morest the meningococcus B via the international vaccination center of the new civil hospital in Strasbourg.
