Memphis Tigers to Face West Virginia in 2024 Frisco Bowl
The 25th-ranked University of Memphis football team will make its 11th consecutive bowl appearance in the 2024 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, facing off against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Tuesday, December 17. This marks the seventh-longest active bowl streak in the nation and the longest among all non-Power 4 programs.
The matchup at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, will mark the first-ever meeting between the Tigers (10-2, 6-2 AAC) and Mountaineers (6-6, 5-4 Big 12). This will be the second consecutive year that Memphis takes on a Big 12 opponent in a bowl game, having defeated Iowa State in last year’s AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
West Virginia enters the bowl game following a 6-6 regular season, boasting a 5-4 record in Big 12 play. The Mountaineers achieved notable victories over Kansas (32-28), Cincinnati (31-24), and Arizona (31-26). They also put up a fight against No. 16 Iowa State, losing by a 12-point margin on October 12.
West Virginia brings a top 30 rushing offense to the table and stands out as one of the least penalized teams in the nation. Historically, they hold a .293 winning percentage against ranked opponents.
Tickets for the 2024 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl are currently available through the Memphis Ticket Office online at [LINK] or by phone at (901) 678-2331.

In your opinion, which team has the biggest advantage heading into the Frisco Bowl?
## Interview with ESPN College Football Analyst, Mike Golic Jr.
**Host:** Mike, thanks for joining us. The University of Memphis Tigers are headed to their 11th straight bowl game, facing West Virginia in the Frisco Bowl. What are your initial thoughts on this matchup?
**Golic:** It’s impressive, no doubt. 11 straight bowl appearances for Memphis is a testament to the program they’ve built. Facing West Virginia will be a challenge though. They’ve shown flashes of brilliance this year, and their rushing attack is something Memphis will need to be prepared for.
**Host:** Memphis fans are understandably excited, especially after last year’s Liberty Bowl win. Do you think this year’s bowl game holds the same level of excitement?
**Golic:** It definitely has the potential. West Virginia is a Power 5 program, and a win here would be a significant statement for Memphis. It’s a chance for them to show they belong on the national stage.
**Host:**
Looking ahead to the matchup, do you see Memphis’s strong defense being the key factor against West Virginia’s potent rushing offense?
**Golic:** That’s going to be the battleground for sure. Memphis’s defense has been solid all year, but West Virginia’s running game is a real weapon. Whoever wins that battle will likely win the game.
**Host:** Mike, do you think this game will be a shootout, or a lower-scoring defensive struggle?
**Golic:** I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of points put up. Both teams have shown they can score, but the key for Memphis will be slowing down West Virginia’s run game and forcing them into passing situations.
**Host:**
Some might argue that West Virginia, with a 6-6 record, doesn’t warrant the same excitement as last year’s opponent, Iowa State. What do you say to those fans?
**Golic:** Every bowl game is a chance to end the season on a high note and build momentum for the future.
West Virginia is a quality opponent, and a win against them would be a big accomplishment for Memphis. They shouldn’t overlook anyone.
**Host:** Alright Mike, final thoughts?
**Golic:** I expect a competitive and exciting game. These two teams are evenly matched, and it could come down to the wire. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Memphis pull it off, but West Virginia is certainly a threat.
We’ll have to wait and see.
**What do you think, readers? Does this bowl matchup excite you as much as last year’s, or does a 6-6 West Virginia team lack the same allure? Share your thoughts in the comments below.**
