Memories were awakened in the historical refuge of Patras PHOTO

The site of the historical refuge opened its gates on the morning of Friday, October 4, immediately after the completion of the event held by the municipality in Ypsile Alonia square to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Patras from the Nazi occupation troops.

The historical refuge of Patras, which is located below Ypsila Alonia, is one of the reference points of the events this year as it is a “living” cell of historical memory which in 2020 became visitable by the Municipality.

The Mayor of Patreon, Kostas Peletidis, guided students of the 4th Primary School of Patras, citizens and representatives of the city authorities to the premises of the shelter and to the unique historical and commemorative material hosted there, through which moments from the bombing of the city against the start of World War II, the suffering of the occupation and the liberation.

The opening of the refuge was attended by the deputy mayor of Culture Apostolis Aggelis, the deputy mayor of education – self-trust Aikaterini Simou, the deputy mayor of Civil Protection, Urban Waste Management, Recycling and Mechanical Equipment Michalis Anastasiou, the deputy regional governor of Western Greece Charalambos Bonanos, the president of DIPETHE Patras Lydia Karathanasopoulou, the president of the Karnavali Patras Non-profit enterprise Pavlos Skouras, the president of the Labor Center of Patras Dimitris Marmoutas, municipal and district councilors.

The shelter will remain open until Wednesday, December 4. The refuge area will operate from 10.00 in the morning to 1.00 in the afternoon (except Saturdays).
