Members of “Los Cucules” are sentenced to 127 years in prison and other penalties

The High Risk Court C this Tuesday, March 12, handed down a sentence once morest members of the band called “Los Cucules.”
Edgar Roberto Chub Recinos, alias Pelón, was sentenced to 127 years of incommutable prison for aggravated robbery, personal fraud, illicit association, kidnapping or kidnapping, and murder.
While Herman Orlando Salguero was sentenced to two years in prison for material falsification and was acquitted of concealment.
The other sentenced is Luis David Chun. The judge handed him a four-year sentence for personal fraud, commutable at a rate of Q100 per day. He was acquitted of illicit association, kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
These sentences were for the kidnapping and murder of Mateo Joab Morales that occurred in Los Amates, Izabal, on May 27, 2022.
In that place they found the body of the victim, but the head was not found. He was the son of the former mayor of Mixco, Elmer Morales, for whom they reportedly asked for US$20,000 in ransom.
The Court considered that the ruling should be certified once morest the investigation unit of the Public Ministry (MP) “due to the lack of an efficient investigation.”
He added that the MP would have ignored several investigation processes; Furthermore, he would not have requested due diligence in the case of the body to determine if the victim suffered torture.
The gang called “Los Cucules”, supposedly led by Juan Manuel Galindo Ortiz, alias “Tonka”, now a fugitive, would have operated in Zacapa, Chiquimula, Izabal, Petén and Escuintla.
The gang is dedicated to drug trafficking, kidnappings, murders, disappearances, scams, vehicle thefts and collections for hitmen, according to the records of the National Civil Police.
