MELBOURNE – As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of Melbourne St Mary’s Canaan Catholic Parish, the winners of the parish-wide “Kannaya Farmers’ Competition” were announced to identify and promote the best farmers in the parish.
Sajimon – Ajimol Wayalungal family bagged the first position in the highly-hyped Vaishamashri competition. Jomon – Jaya Koppippilil family won second place. James – Shiny Manimala family and Lins – Sherin Mannarmattham family shared the third position.
Contest winners were awarded first, second, and third prizes of $301, $201, and $101, respectively, sponsored by ALS Mortgage Solutions. Prizes were given to the winners by Parish Vicar Fr. All the participants in the competition were also given incentive prizes.
The competition was organized under the leadership of a committee consisting of Biju Chakochan Peshiyatham and Shiju K Lucas Kuriathara as coordinators. Jomon in Kulanji, Lansmon in Varikasser, Biju Chakochan in Pahiyatham, Shiju K Lukes Kuriathara, John Thomman in Nedumthuruthi and Shaji Kochuvelikakam led the judging.
Even in Australia, those who find time for agriculture are certainly appreciated, and many more people, inspired by this competition, come forward to cultivate in their homes, parish vicar Fr. Abhilash Kannampadam and Shinoy Manjankal, General Convener wished the 10th anniversary.
