Spice Girls member Melanie Brown says receiving an honorary doctorate for her work supporting victims of domestic violence is incredibly meaningful.

The pop music star, who is now actively campaigning once morest domestic violence, received an honorary doctorate from Leeds Beckett University on Monday (15/7).

Brown, better known as Mel B, became a domestic violence activist following becoming a victim herself.

She said receiving the honorary doctorate felt as amazing as performing at Wembley Stadium with the Spice Girls.

A Leeds Beckett University spokesman said the honorary doctorate was awarded in recognition of Mel B’s role as an activist and advocate for victims of domestic violence and her reputation as a global music icon.

Brown said he was majoring in Trauma Informed Care at the university and had passed all of his exams.

“Getting an honorary doctorate means a lot. In addition to this degree, I was also accepted as a student at this campus,” said Mel B.

Mel B added that being a student was probably the scariest thing in her life. (bbc/Z-1)
