Recently, a popular Chinese company announced that it would stop producing smartphones in 2024. This is Meizu, a company that usually competes against Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, among other brands that dominate the Asian market. Although this brand is not so famous in Peru and other South American countries, it had managed to position itself in Asia, Europe and other regions, thanks to its cell phones that are characterized by having truly affordable prices. Why do I make this decision? Here we are going to tell you.

Why will Meizu stop making phones?

Founded in 2003 by Jack Wong, Meizu is a technology company that also focuses on designing other equipment, such as headphones and speakers. However, its forte was cell phones, which came with Flyme OS, its own custom software based on Android. Like other Chinese brands, it offered entry-level, mid-range, and high-end devices that had acceptable technical specifications.

Shen Ziyu, current president and CEO of Meizu, announced that the company was withdrawing from the manufacture of smartphones, that is, closing its mobile division, due to strong competition in this sector. The news surprised its millions of users, who were concerned that this company would stop providing technical support to their equipment, something that has not yet been clarified.

Let us remember that, in 2021, the South Korean company LG made the same decision; However, it promised to provide several years of support to all users who had purchased its cell phones. After Shen Ziyu’s announcement, many wondered what would happen to the devices that Meizu had planned to launch in the short term. Although it seemed like they were going to be canceled, the brand surprised everyone and launched its latest cell phone: the Meizu 21 Pro.

What are the technical specifications of the Meizu 21 Pro?

The smartphone, which belongs to the high range, weighs 214 grams and has the following dimensions: 164.98 mm high, 74.42 mm wide and 7.98 mm thick. Regarding the screen, it has a 6.79-inch LTPO Amoled panel with 2K+ resolution (3,192 x 1,368 pixels). Additionally, it has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 1,250 nits.

Inside, the Meizu 21 Pro has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with Adreno 750, 12 or 16 GB RAM, 256, 512 or 1 TB internal memory and an integrated 5,050 mAh battery. This is compatible with 80 W fast charging and 50 W wireless charging. The components are well protected, since the cell phone has IP68 certification against dust and water.

Inside the rear module we will also see an LED Flash Ring.

How much will the Meizu 21 Pro cost?

The last cell phone that Meizu will launch will be exclusive to China and will be available in four colors: black, white, green and blue. Regarding their prices, these vary, depending on the model you choose. Next, we leave them to you:

  • Meizu 21 Pro (12GB + 256GB): 4999 yuan, about US$692.93

  • Meizu 21 Pro (16 GB + 1 TB): 5899 yuan, about US$817.68

What will Meizu focus on?

According to the renowned technological leaker Roland Quandt, will stop making traditional phones and focus on “devices of tomorrow” powered by AI. It is worth remembering that this is not the first time that the Chinese company has changed fields. A few years ago, it was dedicated to making MP3 players, later it focused on the mobile market.
