Meghan Markle, the wife of Britain’s Prince Harry, slammed the British press on Saturday over reports that letters exchanged with King Charles played a role in her decision not to attend his coronation ceremony, in her latest confrontation with the press.
And the Daily Telegraph reported that Meghan wrote to the king to express her concerns over unconscious bias in the royal family. She said that the letter was sent following her statements in an interview with presenter Oprah Winfrey in 2021 that the royal family had expressed concern regarding the color of her son’s dark skin.
The newspaper said that the Duchess of Sussex did not feel that she had received a satisfactory answer to her concern.
A spokesperson for Meghan said: “The Duchess of Sussex is moving on with her life at the moment without thinking regarding the correspondence that took place two years ago in relation to an exchange that took place four years ago.”
“Any suggestion to the contrary is incorrect, in fact absurd,” he added. We call on the popular press, and the various correspondents of royal affairs, to stop this exhausting circus that no one else creates.
Prince Harry will attend the coronation ceremony next month without his wife, who will remain in California with their two sons. Their eldest son, Archie, turns four on the same day.
Harry and Megan stepped down from royal duties in March 2020, and said they wanted to start a new life in the United States, away from media harassment.
