A complicated birth to manage. When Meghan and Prince Harry’s first child was born on May 6, 2019, the public expected to see the same ceremony that at each birth of a “royal baby”: the exhibition to the public of the newborn, by the parents, on the steps of the clinic. Meghan Markle reveals in the documentary Harry & Meghanon Netflix, that the Sussex couple had failed to agree with Buckingham Palace on the details of the event.
While the Duchess of Sussex was followed at Portland Hospital by his doctor, the Buckingham Palace communications team would not have appreciated than the usual discharge from the hospital cannot take place because of the narrowness of the entrance. A data that the couple had not taken into account, and which was the least of their concern at that time: “There was already a lot of pressure with the expected shot of Archie on the steps. Are they going to do it or not? But what mattered most to me was the delivery because I’m more old and I was wondering if I was going to have to do a caesarean”. The traditional shots on the steps seemed completely futile to Meghan. Trying to find a solution so that the journalists would be satisfied, she then proposed that the photographers might meet the couple and Archie at Windsor Castle a few days following delivery.
