Meghan Markle has made a scathing statement equating her with Prince Harry’s late mother Princess Diana, according to a new book.
According to author Tom Power in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Among the Windsors, Prince agreed: Because he was in a panic, he would lose the unknown actress following only five months together.
In his book, Power delves into a crisis that erupted following news broke in 2016 that Meghan was dating a favorite British royal at the time.
Amid a glut of headlines that Meghan and Prince thought carried racist undertones, Harry’s then-press secretary Jason Knauf agreed to issue a statement on behalf of the Prince “condemning the media for describing Meghan”.
Bauer wrote that this was done in an attempt to reassure her.
Harry dictated Knauf’s feelings to turn it into a statement. By putting Knauf into a puzzle, Megan demanded that the statement reflect the similarity between her possible fate and that of Diana,” adds Bauer.

According to Bauer, Knauf tried to warn the couple once morest comparing Meghan to their late sweetheart Diana.
Knauf suggested that overstating Meghan’s anxiety would backfire, but Harry was adamant. Harry insisted that if Meghan’s desire to equal Diana had not been fulfilled, it was likely that she would have lost her. Knauf agreed.
Harry then asked for support from his older brother, Prince William, Bauer says, but William “hesitated…Unfortunately, Harry was obeying Meghan’s orders. It was not wise.”
In the end, the 2016 statement did not name Diana by name, but rather hinted at the dangers and tragedies that befell her. Getty Images
In the end, the statement, which was issued in November 2016, five months following he and Megan met, did not name Princess Diana, but alluded to the tragedies that happened to her, including her being chased by the paparazzi before the 1997 car accident in which he died. .
“My friend, Meghan Markle, has been subjected to a wave of abuse and harassment,” part of the statement read. “Prince Harry is concerned for Ms Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her…This is not a game, her life is her life and her life.”
In 2019, Harry compared Meghan directly to her mother in a statement regarding Markle’s private messages published in the British press.

“My deepest fear is that history will repeat itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I see my wife fall victim to the same powerful forces.”
Meghan won her lawsuit once morest Associated Newspapers in 2021 following the Mail on Sunday printed parts of a handwritten letter she sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, in August 2018.
