It is a period series of high standards, which is expected on our television receivers in 2025 and bears the signatures of two separate creators, Nikos Koutelidakis (director) and Eleni Ziogas (script-adaptation), who drew their inspiration from the classic masterpiece of the great Greek writer Konstantinos Theotokis, “Katadikos”.
One of the author’s most important works, where a faithful fresco of rural Greece of the late 19th and early 20th centuries is presented in relief.
The heroes of the series, which balances between psychological drama, police thriller and metaphysical mystery, are brought to life by Kostas Nikoulis, Christina Heila Fameli, Yiannis Niarros, Kimon Kouris, Amalia Kavalis, Giorgos Stamos, Maria Kallimani, Eleni Ziogas, Loukia Michalopoulou and a host of beloved and talented actors.
The premise of the series
The case unfolds in a poor rural village of North Corfu, but also in the wild landscapes of Epirus. Yannos or Turkoyannos (Kostas Nikoulis), is an illegitimate child born from the rape of his Arvanitissa mother (Amalia Kavalis), by a Turkish bandit. Growing up, both he, the one suffering from the underestimation of the villagers, and his loyal friend Petros (Yiannis Niarros) – a contradictory character with strong positive and negative sides – are in love with their childhood friend, Margarita (Christina Heila Fameli), a girl with a strong personality and a special, for her time, sense of independence.
However, Margarita, at the suggestion of her parents, (Maria Kallimani, Giorgos Stamos) marries someone else, the gentle and honest Giorgis Arathymos (Kimon Kouris). During her marriage, however, she falls in love with Petros, who at the same time maintains an affair with the poor village widow Stefania (Lucia Michalopoulou). When Margarita’s husband is found murdered, Yannos, following Petros’ incriminating testimony, will be arrested and convicted. However, he, self-sacrificing because of his love for Margarita, will not stop, in prison, maintaining his innocence, which motivates her to look for the real culprit. His revelation will turn everything upside down…
