Big stage for Megan Thee Stallion: The US rapper will host the MTV Video Music Awards in mid-September. She also has five chances to win an award. Taylor Swift is the favorite with ten nominations.
US rapper Megan Thee Stallion (29, “Hiss”, “Body”) will be on stage as a host at an awards gala for the first time. The singer is set to host the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA’s) on September 11th. She told her “hotties”, as the rapper’s fans call themselves, in social media posts on Thursday (local time). This awards ceremony with Thee Stallion as host will be the “hottest ever”, advertised the organizers on the X platform. In the past two years, rapper Nicki Minaj hosted the show.
The rapper recalled the show in 2019, when she first attended the MTV Video Music Awards and won her first VMA trophy. This year, she heads into the race with five nominations, including Best Hip Hop Video, Best Direction and Special Effects for her song “Boa,” and Best Collaboration with GloRilla on the song “Wanna Be.”
Pop superstar Taylor Swift is heading into this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with the most chances of winning. With ten nominations, including in the categories of Video, Artist and Song of the Year, the 34-year-old leads the list of candidates, followed by nine-time nominee Post Malone, who worked with Swift on the hit song and video “Fortnight”. Ariana Grande (“We Can’t Be Friends”), Sabrina Carpenter (“Espresso”) and Eminem (“Houdini”) each have six chances of winning.
The trophy show on September 11th will take place in the US state of New York. Live performances by Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, Sabrina Carpenter and GloRilla have already been announced.
The awards have been given out since 1984. Fans can vote for their favorites online. The trophies depict an astronaut figure holding an MTV flag.
