Megaload of 28,000 kilos of smuggled onion was intercepted in San Pedro

Asunción, IP Agency.- The National Tax Revenue Directorate (DNIT), through its Anti-Smuggling Directorate, intercepted in Guayaibí, San Pedro, a truck with more than 28,000 kilos of onions distributed in more than 1,400 bags. It is presumed that the shipment entered the country illegally through the Bado-Sapucaia border crossing.

According to investigations, the vehicle was heading to the Asunción Food Market, avoiding controls using routes in the mountains. Once in the capital, the product would be introduced into the domestic market as if it were of national origin.

During the controls, the driver of the vehicle did not have the relevant documentation for the transfer and marketing of the product, which is presumed to be of Brazilian origin.

It should be noted that this seizure was possible thanks to the joint work of DNIT agents, Senave technicians, the area prosecutor and the National Police.

«Right now the fruit and vegetable product is a very sensitive matter for the country, when we talk about smuggling. This intervention is in favor of our national production,” declared Pablo Montiel, head of Operational Logistics, of the Anti-Smuggling Directorate, in conversation with the press.
