The Mega Millions lottery jackpot is on the rise once more, reaching an estimated $1.25 billion following no one managed to beat the huge odds to win the jackpot in Tuesday’s drawing.
The winning combination was 8, 24, 30, 45, 61; golden ball 12.
No one has managed to take the pot since April 18, which has allowed it to reach that amount. The prize of 1,250 million is one of the highest ever distributed by the lottery in the United States. Tuesday’s draw, involving a $1.1 billion jackpot, was the 30th straight draw without a winner.
This is due to the combination of bad luck and a very low chance of winning, which in the case of Mega Millions is one in 302.6 million. The options of getting smaller prizes, ranging from one to two million euros, are significantly higher.
The new jackpot, to be played on Friday, would go to a single winner who chooses to receive the prize in one annual payment over 30 years. Almost all of those who achieve millionaire jackpots opt for the cash payment, which for Friday is estimated at 625.3 million dollars.
Winners would be subject to federal taxes, and many states tax lottery prizes as well.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, plus Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands.
