Meeting tourism grows in Paraguay with major sporting events

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur) promotes meeting tourism through the organization of large events, mostly in the sports field, which generate significant economic activity and make Paraguay an attractive destination to discover.

With the Itapúa Rally taking place this weekend, as an evaluation test for the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) in the department, an agenda of major events is set in motion for the next two years.

The 2025 WRC will bring together thousands of fans and Paraguay is expected to demonstrate its organisational capabilities and become a regular destination on the world rally calendar.

The director of Meeting Tourism of Senatur, Victor Chamorro, pointed out Paraguay TV This weekend’s rally test will be accompanied by the Latin American Special Olympics Games, which will bring together 800 athletes from October 4 to 12.

In addition, the 2025 Junior Pan American Games are imminent, which will double the number of participating delegations to the South American Games (Odesur 2022).

Chamorro also referred to the negotiations for Paraguay to host the 75th FIFA Congress next year. There are 211 delegations and some 1,000 delegates who would come to our country.

Attractions of Paraguay

Paraguay has a strategic position, equidistant from the main cities of the Southern Cone, such as Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo, in addition to a growing infrastructure and economic predictability.

This last point is what makes it possible to host large events that are prepared 2 to 3 years in advance, Chamorro said.

In addition to sporting events, Paraguay hosted this year the OAS Summit, the Mercosur Summit and the Assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which brought together thousands of people, and is preparing for the assembly of the Latin American Federation of Banks (Felaban).
